YEMHI MEMORIAL COLLEGE DIMAPUR COMMEMORATES WORLD THEATRE DAY 2024
In Celebration of World Theatre Day 2024, The Literary Club under the aegis of English Department, in Collaboration with General Student’s Association of Yemhi Memorial College, Dimapur organized a Drama Competition on the Great Indian Play ‘Abhinljana Shakuntalam’, on 28th March 2024 under the theme, “Theatre and a Culture of Peace”.
Ms Ajano Kithan was the chairperson for the program. Ms Risela S Sangtam pronounced the Invocation and Ms Vinatoli Francisca, Assistant Professor of English Department spoke on the significance of the event.
In her address, Ms. Francisca mentioned that Theatre has the remarkable ability to transcend barriers of language, culture, and ideology, uniting us in a shared experience of humanity, adding that the work of theatre extends far beyond the stage. She also implied that Theatre is a reflection of the world we live in, a catalyst for social change, and a beacon of hope in times of darkness. She encouraged the audience to turn to theatre as a source of inspiration, resilience, and renewal while navigating the challenges of our rapidly changing world, reaffirming their commitment to the enduring power of theatre to illuminate, educate, and inspire.
The Competition rolled out with seven Academic Departments presenting the seven Acts of the famous Abhijnana shakuntalam. The winners were honoured by Dr. Kaba Daniel Principal of Yemhi Memorial College Dimapur.
The overall winner of the competition was secured by the department of Education, Best Costume by Mr Shekaho from Dept. of History and Best Character by Mr Bajan from the dept. of Sociology.
The day concluded with Words of Gratitude by Ms Avinoli Achumi, President of General Student’s Association Yemhi Memorial College Dimapur.
