Report on 5th Literary and Cultural Day, Yemhi Memorial College

Yemhi Memorial College, Dimapur observed its 5th Literary and Cultural Day on 7th December, 2019 at the college premises under the theme ‘Retrospect the Past and Transcend to Future’. Mr Joshua Achumi, Chairman Governing Body, YMC graced the programme as the Special Guest.

In his address to the students, the speaker reminded the students to always keep tradition alive so that continuity in our history is embedded deeply in our psyche. He further added that without our traditional culture we will lose our history and without history our identity as people will be buried in the sands of time.

He encouraged the students to uphold our rich culture and tradition and also challenged them to develop healthy cultural practices like obedience, sincerity, discipline, hard work and being polite to everyone at all times.

The programme was chaired by Mr Hika Awomi and Miss Sulika Chishi. The other highlights of the programme included Welcome speech by Mr Victor V Aye, Literary and Cultural Secretary YMCSU, welcome song by Tenyimia students, Traditional song by Yimchunger students, Bamboo dance by Konyak students. Sumi students of the college also presented a Drama on the story of Inakha and Ghonili.

The day was also marked by literary competitions like Debate, Public speaking, Poetry and Essay competition. Different indigenous games and display of traditional attires were displayed by the students. Miss Kinivi K. Awomi, Asst. Literary and Cultural Secretary, YMCSU delivered the vote of thanks. The programme ended with a grand feast.
