An awareness programme on Disability was organised by Yemhi Memorial College, Dimapur on 7th September, 2017 at the College Conference Hall. Disability Rights Activist and winner of Lemon Tree Helen Keller Award 2015, Diethono Nakhro was the resource person. She is also a Leading voice for disability rights in Nagaland.

                In her interaction with the students, she shared about her life’s journey as a disabled person and her determination to fight back the disability. As a passionate campaigner, her mission is to conduct awareness programmes on disability in colleges and schools so that she will be able to motivate the young minds to become agents of change in the society. Highlighting on the unfriendly environment for a disabled person in Nagaland and the lack of accessibility in everything she stressed that her campaign is to change people’s mindset so that the environment will become better and people with disabilities will be treated as equal citizens and enjoy a normal life. She encouraged the students to lend their support and raise their voice and get involved in social issues. She also motivated the students by encouraging them to believe in themselves, to form a clear goal in life and work hard for it, to be self disciplined and to always cultivate a positive attitude.

                The programme was chaired by the Principal Mr. Makhan Chetia and vote of thanks was delivered by Ms. Amongla Imsong, Asst. Professor.

                The Anti-Tobacco Committee of the College also distributed certificates and prizes to the students for Essay and Poster Competition held in the College on the topic “Why I choose to be Tobacco Free”. The resource person gave away the prizes.
