Report on Yemhi Cultural & Literary Fest 2nd Edition 2025, Yemhi Memorial College, Dimapur

Yemhi Memorial College conducted it’s 2nd edition of Yemhi Cultural and Literary Fest on 7th March 2025 at the College premises with Shri. Kahuto Chishi Sumi Spokesperson, Nagaland GB Federation as the special Guest.

The program took off vibrantly with Miss Akali Sumi HOD History department, the Chairperson of the formal session enlightening the unique aspects of diverse culture in our society.

Miss Loinoli Zhimomi, Finance Secretary, Evangelical Union, YMC warmly invoked Gods presence in our midst

A welcome note was delivered to the audience by Dr. Kaba Daniel Principal, YMC .He thanked the Guest speaker for the day for making his time available and making his esteem presence felt in the College.

Presentation for the dignitaries was done by Miss Lemngam Konyak Culture and Literary Secretary YMCSC

A special song titled ‘We Are the Nagas’ was brilliantly performed by the BA 2nd semester students.

An awe striking moment was detected throughout the campus  as the BA 6th semester performed one of their best Drama with the title ‘The Yimkhiung Legend of the Giant Snake and the Girl’.

A Traditional Fusion dance was showcased by the students which were followed by the display of traditional attire representing different tribes from Nagaland.

A charismatic speech was then delivered to us by the Guest Speaker Mr Kahuto Chishi Sumi. He reminded us that culture does not necessarily mean only food or dress or otherwise. He highlighted that Culture means value-a value that was transmitted to us by our forefathers. The values of honesty and dignity or hardwork is the best gift to outsmart corruption and dishonesty and encourages the younger generation to uphold those values inculcated to us by our ancestors. He even expressed that every individual is here for a reason and articulates that when one does good ,one can really influence others to be the same .He even stress on the preservation of the indigenous languages which he believe is an invaluable asset and urge the importance of literature in our society.

Words of gratitude was delivered by Mr Lowrance Marak Vice president, YMCSC

A prayer of blessing was offered by Ms T Aienla HoD Education as a sum up of the first session followed by traditional feast.

Second Session:

The second session started with Miss Hemalatha and Mr Jekevi Swu of BA 6th semester as the hosts.

The Literary competition started with Poetry competition extracted from the poem, ‘where the mind is without fear’ composed by Rabindranath Tagore.

For the first time in the college history, Voice of Yemhians Season 1 was introduced with several participants singing their favourite songs .This was followed by Indigenous games competition namely, Fats Eating , Snail Eating & Bamboo Pole Climbing .

The presentation of Awards for the winners was chaired by Mr. Paunamheing Perang, Asst. Prof. Sociology Department &  Member, Literary & Cultural Committee.
